Joel's latest woodworking projects

(Joel's talking in first person during this post) Building a couple of dressers with a friend of mine
Not sure what style to call it yet.
Mission style?
European?
Wanted to add a little detail to the top so I cut mitered rails and styles and joined them by cutting a mortise and placing a homemade oak biscuit of sorts inside of the mortise.

The drawer faces are fitted. The top turned out well with the framing made of poplar and the center panels made of laminated pine.
the side panels are poplar frame again (including the legs) and maple for the center.

In retrospect, this was probably the hardest way to mount the drawer slides.

This is Patrick applying his first coat of rosewood gel stain to his dresser.
This is the first coat of American Walnut stain on Ezekiel's dresser
Zeke's is in the foreground. Tomorrow we apply the polyurethane! ALMOST DONE!

Was waiting for Patrick to have time to work on the dressers, so I took some scrap wood and made a very green nightstand.

Not sure if I like the green stain or not, but I hadn't ever used a colored stain, so I thought I would give it a try.

This project was for my friend Mark. I had been promising to help him build this ladder-style bookshelf for months and just now got around to it.

Solid oak shelves and legs. No bending or warping expected for the next generation or so. Cost $98 plus 5 hours labor

  1. I am VERY impressed with both you and Joel's woodworking talents! You are one handy-dandy, crafty lady! Where did you learn? Or did it come naturally? I like the green table too! Nice work!
