86'd pacifier
Ezekiel is officially off the pacifier now. back in the beginning of June, i think it was, a couple weeks after we got back from Florida, i brought his use down to only when he's sleeping, but i was still wanting to get rid of it completely, just was hoping Ezekiel would lead. before i would give it to him at nap and bedtime, i started asking him "do you want your pacifier?" and he would say "please." then Wednesday night i was trying to get him to say the word pacifier, but he kept telling me "no." he never likes it when i try to get him to say something. Mom had the idea that maybe instead of asking him if he wanted it, getting him to ask for it, and then at some point he might not ask for it. after a brief pause i then asked him if he wanted his pacifier and he said "no." three times i asked if he wanted it and he said "no." so i was like, okay, you don't want it, even though i wasn't sure he knew he was saying he didn't want the pacifier. i put him to bed without it and he fussed a little, but i had some music on in the living room and couldn't tell whether he continued to cry. i gave myself fifteen minutes, then went back to check on him and couldn't hear anything through the door. next day, i put him down for his nap without the pacifier and he didn't make a peep of protest, but he didn't sleep as long of a nap as normal. now, every nap and every night, he's gone without it and been just fine and the length of his nap has gone back to normal. i'm so glad!
